The swells have been larger lately, resulting in more rough movements by the ship. The sway of the ship has become noticeable, at all times of the day. Due to highly active winds, the ninth deck has been locked down until the winds recede. This means we don’t have access to the pool, sports court, or weights, and the for of the ship is off limits. We suspect things will lighten up after we get to japan and continue on from there.
Yesterday, during my global studies class, the powerpoint projection started freaking out every time the ship took on a particularly large swell. If you think it is hard to concentrate in class when it starts snowing outside, try concentrating when the entire classroom is being tilted from one side to the other. The nice thing is that even the professors get distracted when it is unexpectedly more exaggerated.
Also yesterday, we say on two separate occasions, double rainbows. It was amazing to see both ends of the rainbow. In case no one has told you, there is no pot o’ gold, just water.
Today, to everyone’s delight, was what the professors call “study day”, but we students call “no class day”. I think you can imagine the activities the two groups expect to take place. I was a nice break from classes. I think that strategically added it in because otherwise we would have twelve days of non-stop classes. That is a bit much, even to SAS standards. I took this opportunity to finish the second of the two books I brought with me, which will be hitching a box home to mom since they are now useless to me. Due to this semi-unpleasant development I was forced to go to the ship’s library and find a new book. I decided to check out Treasure Island. I expect this to last me another two days, and then it will be back to the library for me. I also did some studying with two friends of mine. We have an exam coming up in four days that no one is prepared for. I exercised a little bit since I have been very successfully avoiding it. After dinner, I went to my cabin to wrap a paper I had no idea was due tomorrow. I guess it is a good thing that almost anywhere you go on this ship, you pass someone in your class. Luckily, the paper is basically, what we learned and to some extent our opinions. I was relatively easy to whip up in an hour. And to wrap it up, tonight we are having trivia night against the Seas. This means that the winning Sea (remember I am on the Bering sea) will receive early points toward sea Olympics.
The food between today has been fantastic. I almost feel like I am being bribed. There was bacon this morning for breakfast, which is a rare commodity. Then for dinner, we had tacos, for the first time ever on the ship. To sweeten the pot, the dessert with tacos was ice cream!!! Mocha, lemon, pineapple, or pistachio. I took the mocha, added some whipped cream and fudge sauce. Mmmm.
Something unfortunate happen today as well. We find out that we can check out DVD’s from the reception desk. Which is fantastic. However, neither me nor my cabinmate’s laptops have a CD port. How disappointed I was to find out I have access to movies with no way to play them. I decided that when we get to japan, I am going to download some movies from Netflix. At least to hold me over. I find like I am going through movie withdraw.
