Okay, so our captain delivered some upsetting news to us today at our Mauritius pre-port. Due to some paper work delays courtesy of the Mauritian holiday today and tomorrow, the paperwork for our ship to dock has not been delivered to the pier. The payment for our stay has been processed, but the papers are delay. This being said, we are being forced to bypass Mauritius and continue straight to South Africa. Had we decided to dock in Mauritius, the pier could have asked for more money, and prevented our departure until payment was made. It is possible that in that event, we could be held there for days. That being said, the authorities, meaning the owner of our vessel, has decided it would be best to sail past Mauritius and continue on the South Africa.

This isn’t all bad. After all, we were only supposed to be there for one day. I am sort of bummed that I won’t get to go to the wildlife foundation, but I am going to one in South Africa, so it’s really no big deal. Also, everyone is getting refunds for the trips they had purchased for Mauritius. This means I am getting some money back! Also, to make up for the crappy news, we are getting extra SAS story time with Dean Dan, a taco dinner day, and the staculty is planning some events for tomorrow to try to supplement for missing Mauritius. I would much rather cancel Mauritius than South Africa, that’s for sure.

Some people are still really upset about this, but I am more of a roll with the punched kind of person. Sure I will be missing Mauritius, but now that I know it exists, I can always come back on my own.

The captain also gave us some good news. The cyclone that was in front of us a dissipated a bit.

Part of this voyage is to experience these countries and widen your idea of the world around you. The other part of this voyage is more personal. It is a way for you to find out who you are, and who you want to be. It is supposed to be a learning experience. If you let everything mishap get you down, and destroy your spirit, then your entire voyage is compromised. I have come to terms with what has happened. I hope others can do the same.
