Easy Day

Today was pretty easy. We had about 3 hours of lecture on invertebrates, and then were done for the rest of the day. The only other thing that had to get done today was a small report for these experiments that we, the students, conducted. It was a simple report and took less than two hours. The class was split into two groups. My group tested whether changing the color of a light would influence a plankton's position in the water column. The other group tested whether comb jellies had a preference between fish food or spinach.

Dinner just ended a few minutes ago. It was "meatloaf", green beans, candied yams, and rolls. The yams and bread were great, but the meatloaf fell a little short of its mark. Definitely not eating mom's cooking down here. They have had some good dinners, but most of the time, if there is meat, it is dry. But what matters is that it is edible, right?

So last week was mostly focused on abiotic factors in the environment. This is temperature, salinity, oxygen concentration, pH, etc. Anything data that can be collect that is not living. This week however, is all about the living stuff. And yes, "stuff" is a technical term. Tomorrow we are schedules to go out seining for creatures. Seining is basically a net connected to poles on either side, which is held by people. The people start a few meters away from the edge of the water, and walk the net to the edge. At the very end, you scoop up and hope you caught something. It is pretty fun, but not when we were in the marsh. I had already fallen through the ground three times, and if I fell through the ground in the pool, I probably would've drown. But this time, I don't think we are going the the marsh, so it should be all good. We also have lecture after field work tomorrow.

My first exam grade came back and I scored above the average, so that is good.

I think this week is going to be fun, but I cant wait for the weekend to come. My friends and I are planning on going to the beach. I want to get out there with my camera to get some pictures.

Goodnight!
