First Day of Class

Wow! This is crazy! Today was the first day of classes. As a reminder I am in Marine Biology this session. Today we went to the salt marsh and the beach. Well, at the salt marsh, for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of experiencing it, the ground is unreliable. You could be walking on solid ground for a few minutes and then you step in the wrong place and your now waist deep. Which happened to me. A lot. Then we went to the beach. Normally, the beach is great, but when you are already wet from getting sucked into the salt marsh, you tend to carry a lot more sand everywhere you go. So we get back to the van to come back to campus, and we are ALL muddy and sandy and wet. We had to clean off as quickly as possible because dinner was starting in about 5 minutes. Now, meal times here are very strict. The start on time and only last a half hour so if your not on time, you are shoveling food into your face. After that we went back to the lab and identified all the specimens we brought back with us. Nothing too crazy, just some shells, plants, fish, crabs, etc. Most of the stuff we brought back was dead, but some was living. So we spent about 2 hours doing identifications.
Here is the thing. I am not entirely sure what we are doing with those. I know the is a lab practical, and during this practical we can use our field books as reference. But does that mean that she is only going to test us on the organisms we identify in the lab? And we also took measurements at each location like temp, salinity, wind speed, etc. I still have no idea what those will be needed for later. Basically, we really don't have any idea what we are doing, we are kinda just guessing at this point.
We got our first assignment that is due Sunday. It seems simple enough though so I will probably try to get it done before that just to get ahead of the game. The hard thing is that class starts at 9am and apparently runs til 9pm. Well technically whenever we finish, but today we ended at about 830pm. So I guess that means I will be staying up late some nights to get stuff done.
Plus side, I think my insect repellent wrist bands are working. I still get bit, but not nearly as much as I would if I didn't have them.
Goodbye for now.
